Zaffera family in relief

It characterises the period from 1430 to 1460.

It is also called oak leaves or big drops. Majolica decorative group in which a "zaffera" is sometimes matched with green, painted on in relief. Such technique seems to be related to a particular bichrome group of Byzantine potteries.



Zaffera: intense dark deep blue colour whose name derives from the arabic word "al-safra", that is cobalt.
